We are excited to announce the launch of our new Weight Management Program at Palos Verdes Medical Group. As you may know, obesity is the second leading cause of medical issues in the United States. Current estimates suggest that by 2030, twenty-five percent of all adults will be obese. Obesity is a significant contributor to conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, joint disease, and chronic kidney disease. Our program at PVMG aims to address these issues comprehensively and effectively.

At Palos Verdes Medical Group, we are committed to providing a comprehensive approach to help our patients achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Our goal is to guide you to the optimal weight for your individual health needs through a personalized and supportive program. Our Weight Management Program encompasses a range of methods tailored to meet the unique needs of each patient. Here are the different types of weight loss methods we offer and their effectiveness:

  • Low Calorie or Calorie Deficit Diet: Expected weight loss is approximately 10% over one year.
  • Exercise Only: While challenging, it requires 90 minutes of exercise 7 days a week to achieve a 7% weight loss.
  • Combination of Low Calorie Diet and Exercise: Highly effective with exercise 3-4 days a week, incorporating walking and some weight training. Can result in approximately a 13% weight loss.
  • Medications in Combination with Diet and Exercise: Can result in up to a 21% weight loss, approaching surgical levels.

We want to emphasize that while medications such as Wegovy and Zepbound can be a beneficial component of weight management, they are not always necessary. If weight loss medications are recommended, they are most effective when combined with diet and exercise. Many of these weight loss medications have been studied at our associated research facility. These medications are part of our approach to weight management, aimed at providing patients with the best possible outcomes.

Our program includes:

  • Comprehensive Examination: We will rule out any medical issues associated with weight gain, such as sleep apnea, asthma, allergies, diabetes, and chronic pain syndrome. If deemed necessary, we will work with your insurance to seek approval for necessary medications
  • Nutritional Counseling: Tailored advice to help you make healthier food choices.
  • Individual Exercise Program: Referrals to professionals that will develop a customized program to fit your fitness level and lifestyle.
  • Personalized Weight Loss Plan: We will work with you to come up with a plan to help you meet your personal weight loss goals.

Our goal is to offer a supportive and comprehensive program that empowers patients to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. We believe that with the right combination of nutritional guidance, physical activity, and medical support, our patients can make significant strides in their health and well-being.
